NU107 Rock Awards: Best Album Packaging

Last 2009, Sleepwalk Circus‘ front man, Francis Lorenzo had asked me and three artists to create artwork for their debut album, Great Secret Show.  A year later, the band came in as a nominee for Best New Somethings  in the 2010 NU Rock Awards – the country’s biggest annual music event hosted by (the now defunct) Manila-based radio station, NU107 -  and they bagged the Guitarist/s of The Year and the Best Album Packaging awards! *fanfare*

As mentioned, this was a collaborative affair and I worked with fellow illustrators Michelle Soneja and Katrina Teh in creating the look of a mystic circus; a special mention goes out to Jin Joson for the Wayang illustration found in the interior!

It was an exciting and surprisingly constructive work environment considering that we all somehow worked independently; perhaps one might harbor reservations with regards to being removed from a view of the grand design, but Fran’s direction had kept us conceptually linked and his confidence was such that there was not much fear in the end results looking like chop suey dripping down a wall. It was a great collaboration and it is always a pleasure to work with such talents. *tips hat*
